I am a displaced Wall Street Professional with over 20 years experience. I
looked at a few resume writing offers that were posted on many of the job
posting websites, but felt that my experience spoke for itself. In 3 months,
I sent out over 20 resumes with individual job-specific cover letters and got
zero response.
I saw a posting from this company – offering a free review of my resume
(as many of these companies do). After receiving my free critique I spoke
with the owner of the company by phone and found out that she herself
would be doing the writing. The results have been impressive – this company
continues to tweak the final product until you are satisfied and the
communication (by email and phone) is very timely…you are not lost in the
shuffle at all. Since I haven’t written a resume in over 12 years – Her
discussions with me about my work history brought out positives that I never
thought to highlight to future employers….not to mention her keen ability to
pick up on old clichés and buzzwords that most employers use to disqualify
rather than qualify potential candidates.
It took about a week to nail down a version of the resume that I
felt comfortable with because we had many discussions about word
choice and prioritizing of duties, and also translating concisely
some of the technical aspects of my job into the description.
The process was dynamic in nature and her methods force
you to speak about yourself – something a lot of us aren’t
comfortable doing.
WHAT IT WAS NOT ---- was template style- I fill out the form and
the company cranks out a generic resume type static exercise. The
President of this company cares about the individual she is working
for and it shows in the final product.
I also have had several “Thank you” notes written by this company
– I needed 3 different notes and the turnaround time was only hours
– along with specific instructions on when to send them.
So far I have had one cover letter written – the result speaks for itself
– I was contacted within days for an interview and that interview turned
into 5 interviews – in one day – which happened to be today so I haven’t
heard back yet on the outcome. I also have an interview pending based
on the resume alone – follow-up on that is the end of this week.
I could not have imagined a better experience than what I’m currently
going through. Based on what I’ve seen offered by other like companies
– Preferred Resume® Group’s rate come in about 40%-50% below what
I saw offered on Ladders.com and the personal service is invaluable –
especially during such a stressful time – unemployment.
Above and beyond the contracted work – I have used the company as
a sounding board for handling some of the delicate etiquette necessary
in the interview process ….again – professional responses in a timely
fashion. This company offers great value not because I think my
resume is good – but because employers do – the results have been well
worth the investment.
